CONTEXT

CoursePlan is a product that has been a few years in the making. I helped my friend Boon Palipatanna kickstart this product in a hackathon, where we won for our very simple prototype of the product. Last year, we pitched the MVP to our project team Cornell Design & Tech Initiative where it grew into a full team of 10 designers and developers!

PROBLEM

Students want to plan what courses they take in advance so they can graduate on time while fitting in fun electives, getting a minor or two, studying abroad and/or graduating early but they can't do that without having to navigate several confusing university websites for information about courses and school requirements.

SOLUTION

Our solution was to create a webapp that has two main features:

• An interactive UI "palette" that allows students to easily add and move courses between semesters. This allows students to easily make (and change!) plans without having to worry about creating their own templates from scratch in a spreadsheet or paper.
• A requirements tracker that allows students to quickly see what courses in their scheduler fulfill requirements. This allows students to make smart decisions when choosing what courses to add to their plans without having to reference multiple resources.

MY ROLE

In this project, I have mostly been responsible for designing the UI palette.I have collaborated on my amazing co-designers Ein Chang and Shane Yun on the detailed course unit and the requirements sidebar. Being on a team with a relatively large design team has had its challenges but it's been such a privilege and I could not have asked for a better team to learn and grow on. I'm excited to see what we come up with moving forward!
